About the role:

This is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated and collaborative Research Associate in Epidemiology to advance research into how social, environmental and household factors influence the health of ageing populations. The Research Associate will join the multidisciplinary UK Small Area Health Statistics Unit (SAHSU) in the MRC Centre for Environment and Health (MRC-CEH) at Imperial and contribute to a research programme designed to provide insights into policy, public health intervention and wider public services.

What you would be doing:

You will contribute to a programme of environmental epidemiology research by analysing large-scale linked datasets constructed from health, environmental exposure and socio-demographic data. You will use appropriate statistical methods (for example, natural experiment designs, small-area methodologies or longitudinal analysis) and collaborate to link geospatial exposure datasets (e.g. air pollution, noise and greenspace) for the health studies. You will be expected to present your work at conferences and publish in high-quality peer-reviewed journals.

What we are looking for:

  • PhD in epidemiology, biostatistics or a closely related quantitative discipline, or equivalent research, industrial or commercial experience
  • Evidence of knowledge of chronic disease epidemiology and epidemiological research methods
  • Demonstrated technical skills to perform research in the field
  • Practical experience of working in a research environment and/or a publication in a relevant refereed journal

What we can offer you:

  • You will be part of a leading academic department that was ranked top nationally in the 2021 REF Assessment (UoA2 Public Health, Health Services and Primary Care).
  • You will have the opportunity to join the dynamic early career Researchers’ Society in the MRC Centre for Environment and Health.
  • You will benefit from wide-ranging, multi-disciplinary expertise and support for researchers that is available across the School, Faculty and College.
  • The opportunity to continue your career at a world-leading institution and be part of our mission to continue science for humanity.
  • Grow your career: Gain access to Imperial’s sector-leading dedicated career support for researchers as well as opportunities for promotion and progression
  • Sector-leading salary and remuneration package (including 39 days off a year and generous pension schemes).
