The Institute of Criminology is seeking a Course Director to lead its Master of Studies (MSt) programme in Applied Criminology, Penology and Management (the Penology course). This is a two-year part-time programme specifically designed for senior practitioners working in the criminal justice system, particularly in prisons, probation, the third sector, the magistracy, and law.
We wish to appoint a Course Director to assume leadership responsibility of this course and contribute to learning and teaching excellence, alongside undertaking world-leading research. Supported by an established administrative team dedicated to the Institute's two MSt courses, the Course Director will have overall responsibility for the Penology course, including recruitment and admissions, overseeing its finances, managing its contractual relationship with HMPPS, and providing strategic leadership. The post holder will also teach, supervise and mark on the programme and line manage the academic staff involved. The position is available on a fixed term basis for three years, and is a part-time role: we welcome applications from anyone wishing to work between 60-80% FTE.
The successful candidate will be educated to PhD level in a relevant subject, have a recognised research and scholarly profile in the field of criminology, criminal justice, or related disciplines. Candidates should have a proven ability to lead and inspire a team and work with vision and foresight, and ideally have well-established networks in relevant criminal justice agencies such as HMPPS.
Applications should comprise a letter of application, a curriculum vitae (including up-to-date publications list, and for three outputs a concise narrative outlining the context for each piece of work, the applicant's contribution to the output, and the importance of the findings), and a statement of current and future research plans (no more than five pages in length).
Informal enquiries are welcomed and can be made to Professor Ben Crewe bc247@cam.ac.uk
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.
