About us

EPH is a world leading multi-disciplinary research department that conducts timely, rigorous and independent research with sound statistical methods into a better understanding of health and the prevention of ill health. This position will be in the Ageing Research Group and focused on cognitive ageing and dementia in the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing. About the role 

You will be involved in the analysis of cognitive and dementia data in ELSA, studying the determinants and consequences of cognitive decline. You will also contribute to cross-national research, to the HCAP substudy, and to the development of the third wave of HCAP in 2028. You will participate in ELSA research more generally, and support students on MSc courses in the Institute. Application Details: • This is an open ended contract role with fixed-term funding until 31 May 2029. • Appointment at Grade 7 (£43,124 - £51,610) is dependent on award and confirmation of a PhD (or equivalent). If this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Research Assistant Grade 6B, point 28 (salary £41,005 annum inclusive of London allowance) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis. • This appointment is subject to UCL Terms and Conditions of Service for Research and Professional Services Staff. About you

You will have a PhD in epidemiology, quantitative social science, statistics or other relevant discipline, and a track record of longitudinal research on cognitive ageing. You should also have a high quality publication portfolio, and knowledge of ageing research and population-based work on dementia. You should be able to work with stakeholders from different disciplines and with policy makers. Appointment at Grade 8 (£52,487-£61,534) requires proven research activity at grade 7 and experience with advanced statistical methods and causal modelling techniques.
