We seek to appoint one or two outstanding Postdoctoral researchers with expertise in weather and climate modelling and /or observational data analysis to join our ERC synergy urbisphere, NERC ASSURE, and AFESP URBANE.

Fixed term post ending on 31/03/2027.

Main duties and responsibilities
Working with international and national partners as part of ERC urbisphere, NERC ASSURE and AFESP URBANE, and with ECMWF, Met Office, NCEO (National Centre for Earth Observation), researchers the candidate will undertake research activities under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and in collaboration with others. This includes:

  • Conducting urban weather modelling in cities (e.g. London, Berlin, Paris, Bristol) using urban land surface models (e.g. SUEWS, MORUSES) offline and online (e.g., UM, IFS, WRF-SUEWS. SUEWS-DAVE, SUEWS-EnergyPlus).
  • Analyse observations such as undertaken in urbisphere-Berlin (Fenner et al. 2024, BAMS).
  • Evaluate model performance using observations.
  • Contribute to the development of improvements to urban canopy model schemes considering momentum, radiation, anthropogenic heat, moisture and other scalars.
