Applications are invited for a full-time postdoctoral research position in the Condensed Matter Theory group of the School of Physics and Astronomy, University of Nottingham. Topics include:

  • Quantum many-body dynamics
  • Quantum algorithms
  • Quantum-enhanced numerical methods
  • Tensor networks
  • Quantum machine learning
  • Computational complexity
  • Topological order

The main responsibility of the role is to carry out theoretical and/or computational research in quantum condensed matter theory and quantum computation, broadly understood. The successful candidate will also be expected to communicate the outcomes of the research in the form of publications and seminars. They will be an integral part of a team of researchers covering a broad range of theoretical areas including statistical physics, condensed matter theory, computational physics, quantum information, and machine learning. We seek a motivated, skilled and highly independent researcher to complement our team.

Candidates should have a doctorate (Ph.D. or equivalent) in physics or mathematics, or be near to completion. A strong research record in theoretical condensed matter physics, quantum computing, or a closely related field is essential.

The start date is flexible, but the candidate is expected to be in post by 1 September 2025. The position will be offered on a fixed-term contract for an initial period of 24 months until 31 August 2027, with the possibility of extension for an additional 12 months. Hours of work are full time, 36.25 hours per week.
