About the Role
The Bates Lab at The Blizard Institute (QMUL) is excited to announce a 3-year Postdoctoral Research position as part of a recently funded BBSRC project investigating glycan - microbe interactions using amphibian models. The post-holder will use state-of-the-art tools in glycomics to dissect how host glycans shape microbiome assembly and colonisation resistance to the deadly fungal pathogen Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis (Bd). To date, Bd has driven at least 500 amphibian species into decline globally, equating to one of the worst epizootics on record. The PDRA will benefit from a close collaboration with the world-leading Glycosciences Laboratory at Imperial College London (https://www.imperial.ac.uk/glycosciences/).
About You
The post is suited to applicants with skills in microbiology, molecular biology bioinformatics and in-vitro/vivo experimentation. Experience in histological methods and FISH is also desirable. Ideally applicants will have a keen interest in eco-evolutionary theory and host-microbiome interactions. The post-holder will be able to work independently as well as collaboratively with the wider team
