Technical Strategy & Operations

This full-time, fixed-term post of Technical Operations Specialist or Technological Development & Fieldwork Managers available immediately in the Department of Geography for the duration of 24 months, with the possibility of an extension of a further 24 months (subject to approval).

Summary of the role:

The Faculty of Environment, Science and Economy (ESE) wishes to recruit a Technical Operations Specialist or a Technological Development and Fieldwork Manager, to participate in the Horizon Europe-funded GEORGE project (https://george-project.eu/), to study biogeochemical parameters related to climate change research in remote areas. This new, full-time, EU-funded post is available immediately on a two-year, fixed-term basis, with the possibility of a 24 months’ extension. The project revolves around the integration of novel sensors with uncrewed surface vehicles (USVs), using them to gather high-quality data in this challenging environment. The successful applicant will support the development and deployment of complex scientific equipment and will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of assets, the preparation of documentation, and participation in fieldwork.

The post will involve practical workshop and laboratory activities, along with data work and office duties. The successful applicant will be expected to support the work of the existing team with their experience and knowledge, acting as mentor and leader where appropriate, and will be confident in liaising with external collaborators/the funding body, along with disseminating and presenting research findings

This role is within the Technical Strategy & Operations part of the Division. We are research and teaching technical staff across the entirety of the University of Exeter. We work in specialist areas across the University and beyond, undertaking and supporting research and teaching and promoting compliance and best practice, in the labs, studios, workshops, and field.

The service is comprised of a team of talented individuals who support our teaching and research, and in training the next generation of top scientists.
