The Sheffield Institute of Social Sciences at Sheffield Hallam University is looking to appoint a Lecturer in Town Planning.

You will teach on our urban planning courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, as well as Degree Apprenticeships.

The role involves designing and teaching modules in areas across our courses, in order to deliver a challenging and engaging learning experience for our students and degree apprentices.

There will be an opportunity to engage in research activity and contribute to the research profile of the Institute.

You may have a background in Town Planning, but we would be particularly interested in anyone with knowledge or experience of urban design & master planning, conservation & heritage and transport & infrastructure.

Whilst this is a full-time role, this is also a good opportunity for a professional in practice seeking to move to academia, and so we particularly welcome applicants seeking to combine a part-time post with continuing with their industry career.

The Institute is committed to the University's vision of being a leading applied university and our teaching and research activity is shaped by this ambition.

Our courses are accredited by professional bodies such as the Royal Town Planning Institute, Landscape Institute and Chartered Institute of Water and Environmental Management. We are an approved RTPI Planning School and have received excellent reports for our teaching quality.

You will have relevant experience in Planning, and evidence of ongoing professional development.

A postgraduate qualification, and/or substantial professional experience commensurate with the role in a relevant discipline, is also essential.

We offer a diverse range of benefits and opportunities to pursue a rewarding and fulfilling career in a supportive environment.

You will be contractually enrolled into the Teachers’ Pension Scheme (TPS) – one of the largest and most generous defined benefit pension schemes in the country.

If you are, or have been, a recent member of the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) directly prior to joining us, you can choose to opt out of the TPS and remain in the USS. Please contact the Pensions team to discuss options available.

For this job, we particularly welcome applications from minority ethnic applicants who are underrepresented in this area/ this type of job at Sheffield Hallam.

The University may be able to sponsor the employment of international applicants in this role; this will depend on a number of factors specific to the individual applicant.

We welcome applications for job-share, part-time and flexible working arrangements.
