Description of Post

It is expected that the assistant lecturer will teach core building engineering modules primarily on the existing 3 -year Level 7 BEng and proposed 4-year Level 8 BEng (Hons) in Building Engineering and Renewable Energy.

The assistant lecturer may also be required to teach general or interdisciplinary building engineering related subjects to students on the Level 7 and Level 8 full-time programmes in Fire Safety Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, and Architectural Technology, as well as on other part-time courses in the Department of Civil Engineering & Construction.

The delivery will include project-based and blended learning, with online learning by agreement.

The assistant lecturer will join an enthusiastic team engaging in collaborative learning.

Pedagogic staff development is encouraged, and cognate qualification progression is also supported.

A significant part of the lectureship responsibility involves research, and it is expected that the successful candidate will bring a strong interest and capacity for research in their field.

Essential Qualifications

Minimum

  • An Honours degree (2.2 or higher) in Electrical or Building Engineering or other relevant built environment discipline Level 8 degree as specified in the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ)] or equivalent.
  • Three years relevant post graduate experience, i.e. 3 years relevant experience having gained the qualifications above.

Desirable

  • A post-graduate or master’s degree in building engineering/electrical engineering, or other relevant area.
  • Expert knowledge of the background science and engineering fundamentals of building engineering.
  • Proficiency in electrical systems design for buildings, domestic and commercial.
  • Expertise in the design of electrical distributions systems, power, lighting, hvac control systems and electrical renewable energy systems
  • Expert knowledge of IS10101 and its implementation.
  • Proficient knowledge of electrical design software such as Dialux, Open Building Designer etc.
  • Proficient knowledge of BIM (Building Information Modelling) as relates to building engineering.
  • Knowledge and experience of using project review software for building engineering to holistically review integrated models and data.
  • Familiarity with the legal issues, Building Regulations and regulatory environment as they apply to construction and built environment processes.
  • Competence in the use of diagnostic and other laboratory equipment.
  • Professional membership of a relevant professional body.
  • Relevant teaching and research experience.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and an ability to work in teams.
