The role
The University of Exeter Medical School (UEMS) is seeking to appoint a talented medical educator to undertake the post of Senior Clinical Skills Tutor in Devon, based at the Clinical Skills Resource Centre (CSRC) at Heavitree Hospital (Exeter).
This is an exciting time to join the Medical School, with the implementation of the General Medical Council’s (GMC) Medical Licensing Assessment (MLA). The Clinical and Professional Skills Assessment (CPSA) component of this is highly dependent on the expertise of the Clinical Skills team’s teaching and assessment. Clinical Skills consistently features as a highlight of our students’ time at Exeter both in our own course evaluation, and more prominently in the National Student Survey (NSS).
The successful candidate will have responsibility for managing the delivery of Clinical Skills teaching and assessment for the undergraduate medicine (BMBS) programme in our Exeter locality. This involves associated operational administration, curriculum development, and quality management & enhancement (including regulatory accreditation as appropriate). You will work with the Clinical Practice Assessment Lead and your counterparts at our other localities to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of teaching and assessment for all our students in accordance with the faculty’s education strategy.
The postholder will possess sufficient breadth or depth of specialist and core knowledge in the discipline, demonstrated by registration with GMC/NMC or equivalent in health care to develop teaching programmes, teach and support learning in this academic area. They will use a range of delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students. They will participate in and develop external networks, for example to contribute to student recruitment, facilitate outreach work, or build relationships for future activities.
Ideally, the applicant will have management experience and maintain a clinical post in addition to this teaching post, keeping them as current as possible with the changing nature of healthcare and clinical procedures. Staff at this level may wish to work towards Fellow of the HEA status and to attend formal CPD relating to this.
Please ensure you read the Job Description and Person Specification (available on the university's website, accessed by the 'Apply' button) for full details of this role.
