Postdoctoral Research Assistant

About the Role

You will join a research team led by Professor Rainbow Murray. You will research how well men are represented descriptively. You will work on three cases studies: the UK, US and Norway. You will conduct a quantitative analysis of key descriptive characteristics to identify whether male politicians are as diverse as their female counterparts. You will then analyse this data on descriptive representation against a range of gendered outcomes to test whether more diverse parliaments produce more inclusive outcomes. You will have the opportunity to present and publish your findings at international conferences and leading journals.

About You

Educated to doctoral level in political science or a cognate discipline, you will be proficient in quantitative research methods and able to gather data from a variety of sources. Familiarity with research on political representation, politician backgrounds and/or policy outcomes would be an advantage. You will be able to work independently and within a team, and to offer creative solutions to methodological challenges.

About the Project

MENSREP is a five-year research project awarded by the ERC and funded by UKRI. The project looks at the political representation of men, to see how men are represented and by whom.
