Summary of the role
The Policy Engagement Manager will work at the interface between academia and policy, to ensure University of Exeter researchers can make a valuable contribution to policy making and support strategic activities to maximise the policy impact of the University’s research strengths. While the post is firmly rooted in Exeter Innovation, this work of the Policy Engagement Manager is linked to and flows through Policy@Exeter, the University’s policy engagement function. As Policy@Exeter EI lead, the Policy Engagement Manager works closely with the Policy@Exeter Director, promoting Exeter's world-class research externally to policy makers regionally and nationally.
Building on the University’s successful track record of policy engagement and public affairs, the post holder will work closely with researchers at all career levels across the three university faculties and all campuses in Exeter and Cornwall - to help connect them with a variety of external partners in the government and policy ecosystem and thus to create positive research impact. The post holder will act as champion for policy engagement at the University of Exeter and will support and share best practice in policy engagement activities and will represent the University on the University Policy Engagement Network.
The Policy Engagement Manager will report to the Regional Engagement Manager within Exeter Innovation (EI). EI is the professional team that supports and drives the University of Exeter’s relationships with businesses and other non-academic partners, driving innovation and making a big impact on society and the economy. The key aim of EI is to secure significantly greater value and impact from relationships with partners drawing on the University’s education, research and physical assets. The EI team is responsible for connecting partners, creating opportunities, generating value and driving impact with industry, government and other non-academic partners. They identify opportunities for impact and partnership development, bring together internal teams and build external partnerships to develop proposals.
