Faculty / Directorate

The Faculty of Health and Life Sciences at DMU educates and develops professionals who make a significant difference to people’s lives, health, wellbeing, communities and society. It is home to the Leicester School of Nursing and Midwifery in which this post will be based.

Role

You would work as part of the practice placement team, primarily focusing on the quality and experiences of student nurses whilst they are educated and assessed in a wide variety of practice placement settings. Your role would also include delivering some teaching and support to students during the academic delivery of our nursing programmes and educating and liaising with practice supervisors and assessors in clinical settings.

In this role you will work with a number of DMU's practice partner organisations across the NHS and private, voluntary and independent care sectors to support them in delivering high quality practical student experiences which meet the Nursing and Midwifery Council professional standards. You will also work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver practice focussed modules which prepare students for these experiences. DMU has recently expanded delivery of skills and simulated practice for student nurses and there is opportunity to be involved in this initiative, working with excellent facilities and the latest teaching and clinical equipment.

The role will involve collaboration, co-operation and communication with a wide range of stakeholders and provides the opportunity to network regionally and nationally to deliver a number of practice learning and assessment strategies, in which DMU is a leading partner. Opportunities exist to develop and deliver innovative practice learning strategies which further enhance our students' experiences and to promote and share such practices through initiatives such as our annual Celebration of Practice Learning Event.

This is an exciting time for nurse education as we begin to implement the NHSE Safe Learning Environment Charter and consolidate the updated NMC Standards for Nurse Education (2024).

Ideal Candidate

Ideal candidate must be a registered nurse and should be experienced and well versed in their field of nursing with experience as a practice supervisor or assessor. The candidate must be passionate about the value and importance of practice based learning and assessment. It is important that they are creative and have the determination to drive change and be novel whilst upholding the highest standards of professionalism.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss this opportunity you are most welcome to contact: Dr Lou Hunt, Director of Practice, The Leicester School of Nursing and Midwifery, Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, De Montfort University Lou.hunt2@dmu.ac.uk.
