We have an exciting opportunity for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate to join the Vector Biology Department to support the Ethnography Work Package team in the analysis and write-up of qualitative data for publication in peer-reviewed journals. The successful candidate will join a collaborative research team led by Chris Jones, Shire-Vec Principal Investigator, LSTM and Federica Guglielmo, Ethnography Work Package lead, UoL/LSTM to work in drafting manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication, policy and funders reports, and in producing any documentation relevant to the management of the work package.

Key responsibilities include:

Lead the analysis and write-up of qualitative data

  • Review the existing relevant literature (in anthropology, sociology, development studies etc.) on large-scale interventions with emphasis on water and land resource management, community development, cooperatives and germane topics
  • Analyse and synthesise data and learning for sharing within and beyond the programme
  • Identify and share examples of good practice, and opportunities for mutual learning across the partnership
  • Implement research in line with all funding and administrative requirements, including gaining ethical approval if needed

Produce reports, papers and other documentation to communicate research findings

  • Contribute to reports, publications, updates for the programme management team
  • Lead on drafting reports and manuscripts for the Ethnography work package
  • Write policy briefs and other technical documents as appropriate

Further responsibilities

  • Contribute to the analysis and write up of research findings for publication
  • Contribute to project management

The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work as an integral member of a multi-disciplinary, multi-national research team. You will have well-developed research skills with the ability to effectively present research findings in oral and written format. You will also demonstrate:  

  • PhD in a relevant discipline (anthropology and sociology)
  • Understanding of large-scale interventions and resource management
  • Experience of complex interventions and multidisciplinary research
  • Familiarity with NVivo software for analysing qualitative
  • Experience of planning and designing qualitative research projects
  • Ability to develop data collection methods to capture qualitative data
  • Experience of writing for peer-reviewed publications, technical reports and conference presentations
  • Proficient in MS Office Software especially Word and PowerPoint
