The Leverhulme Centre for The Future of Intelligence (CFI) within the Institute for Technology and Humanity, seeks to appoint an Assistant Professor in AI and Ethical Design. The successful candidate will be expected to take up appointment on 1 September 2025.

CFI is an interdisciplinary research centre that has pioneered research into the ethics of AI since 2016, with a track record of attracting world-class researchers, exceptional students, and external funding. Its members are drawn from a wide range of disciplines, including law, social science, computer science, media studies and philosophy.

We welcome candidates that may come from any academic background relevant to the ethical design of AI, including but not limited to design theory, design engineering, or human-computer interaction, with a track-record of publication directly in this area.

We are seeking candidates who have a record of, or clear potential for, high level research commensurate with their career stage. We welcome candidates who have the ability to pursue external funding to support a programme of research in their fields. The post holder will be expected to engage in outreach and also contribute to the successful running and development of CFI in the short and long term. The successful candidate will be based at CFI, within the Institute for Technology and Humanity in central Cambridge.

Together with CFI's other staff, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing curricula and delivering teaching for the MSt and MPhil courses. You will also play a central role in marking, supervising, and admissions for both courses throughout the year, as well as contributing to further courses in development, such as shorter courses or a PhD programme. We are seeking candidates that complement the specialism of our corresponding vacancy for an Assistant Professor in Social Science of AI (see Job Opportunities - University of Cambridge).
