We have an exciting opportunity to recruit a Senior Postdoctoral Scientist to join the Alzheimer’s Research UK Oxford Drug Discovery Institute, at the Centre for Medicines Discovery, Nuffield Department of Medicine.
Reporting to the Head of Chemistry in the Alzheimer’s Research UK Oxford Drug Discovery Institute (ODDI), you will be a team leader carrying out research into new targets for the treatment of dementia.
You will be responsible for managing research projects in matrix model, liaising with researchers in the ODDI and academic and industrial collaborators. You will be also tasked to independently lead medicinal chemistry research projects; use technical knowledge and experience to generate original design hypotheses as research questions, synthesise small molecules for testing, analyse multi-parameter data to refine and develop hypotheses to drive project progression.
You will also be sharing responsibility for shaping the ODDI’s strategic plans through evaluating new biological targets for prosecution in drug discovery projects, providing expert advice as to the tractability of targets and contributing to the writing of funding applications.
To be successful in this role, you will hold a PhD in organic synthesis or medicinal chemistry, with post-qualification experience in an integrated drug discovery group, along with sufficient specialist knowledge in the field of medicinal chemistry to develop multi-disciplinary drug discovery projects. You will have technical expertise encompassing small molecule design and synthesis, chemistry software packages and electronic laboratory notebooks, and a strong publication record in chemistry, including experience independently writing scientific reports and manuscripts.
Applications for this vacancy are to be made online and you will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience
