Job Description
We are currently offering a Graduate Internship, Collections, which is an exciting opportunity to gain significant experience in heritage management in its widest sense and the potential use of collections for learning, in the context of higher education. The University’s collections comprise fine art, natural history, social history, specialist publications, and an archive relating to its own history. Its two main campuses in Bath, Newton Park and Locksbrook Road, are significant historic assets in their own right, and outstanding resources for learning. (This role is a fixed term 1 year contract)
About the Role
Within this exciting role, your key responsibilities will include conducting regular collections checks, maintaining databases and inventories, and supervising access to collections for staff, students, and the public. You will also support academic staff in developing student projects and assist in coordinating displays and collections-related activities at the Newton Park and Locksbrook campuses.
In addition to the general duties described above, there will be opportunities to work with other members of the University on specific projects, primarily designed to support the use of BSU’s collections and its historic estate in new ways and by different people.
About You
You will be highly motivated with a degree in a relevant subject and a strong interest in the use of collections for learning and teaching. You will have excellent time management, project planning, IT, and communication skills, along with experience working both independently and collaboratively. A systematic approach to work, problem-solving, and an understanding of contemporary practice in the arts, humanities, and related fields is essential.
