The role

An exciting opportunity for an experienced qualitative researcher to lead the qualitative elements of a mixed-methods feasibility cohort study exploring the use of a new diagnostic test in GP practices. The test is designed to improve the use of antibiotics for upper respiratory tract infections, and it is hoped it may be valuable in the fight against antibiotic resistance. The study is funded by the NIHR School of Primary Care Research.

Interview date: mid-late October 2024.

What will you be doing?

The successful candidate will lead and take overall responsibility for the qualitative research in the study, including: carrying out interviews; analysing the data; writing up the research for publications and presentations; undertaking all required ethical and governance aspects of the research. It is expected that ethical approvals will be in place by the time of appointment, however you will take responsibility for any subsequent amendments. You will be based at the Centre for Academic Primary Care, Canynge Hall in Bristol and may be required to travel for face-to-face interviews.

You should apply if

Applicants will have a PhD or equivalent experience in relevant behavioural or social science subjects (preferably health-related). You will have detailed knowledge and understanding of the range of qualitative methodologies and underlying theory. You will have experience of carrying out high quality in-depth qualitative studies of health, ideally with experience working in research in a primary care setting with patients and/or staff. Your publication record will show evidence of work of at least national quality in relevant discipline(s). You will have demonstrated your ability to work efficiently both independently and in teams in a research context and will have excellent written and spoken communication skills. You will have good project management skills and be able to work to deadlines. You will be willing to work flexible hours, e.g. occasional evenings if required.
