About the role
We wish to appoint a part-time Assistant Professor (E&S) on a fixed-term contract to join the Department of Neuroscience within the School of Life Sciences, part of the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Medicine at the University of Sussex. In this role you will support the teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students in neuroscience-related modules.
The position will involve the delivery of lectures, tutorials, seminars and practical classes. You will also be expected to develop new teaching sessions, design new assessments and carry out marking duties. Additionally, the successful candidate will supervise undergraduate and Masters-level project students.
About you
You should have prior experience of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level in neuroscience-related fields. You should normally be educated to doctoral level, and you should have research experience in neuroscience or a closely related discipline. Since the position will involve development of practical taught sessions, experience in fundamental neuronal recording techniques and, in particular, in the use of electrophysiological methods, is required.
The successful candidate will have excellent presentation skills and the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students and colleagues. You will have the organisational and administrative skills to manage your own workload and at times, support other colleagues. You will communicate clearly with the team, line management, and stakeholders.
