Applications are invited for two Senior SQL Developers to work with the ORCHID Research Platform central data team at the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences. ORCHID is a large primary care database that works with national agencies, other Universities, and collaborators across the country to deliver world class research and surveillance insights. 

The successful applicants will be part of the central data team with responsibility for conducting and facilitating research on a range of projects across the department.

Responsibilities will include manipulating large and complex relational databases, developing new scripts, views, stored procedures, and other related database functionality, to support various business requirements. You will work with large electronic health records systems and understand the techniques and tools used to maintain confidentiality of patient level data. You will line manage and mentor a small team. You will have the opportunity to identify, define, plan and conduct new research projects which contribute to the overall strategic aims of the group, attract funding into the department by applying for grants and prepare research publications and reports.

You will have previous experience of data management of large-scale datasets, preferably in primary care, and/or other electronic medical records. You will have expert knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and knowledge of the concepts that allow relational databases to function. You will be experienced in writing T-SQL queries on large datasets. Excellent interpersonal skills, including effective communications with people from different scientific or clinical disciplines are required. You will also have a firm understanding of Information Governance and Data protection.

You will be based in the Radcliffe Primary Care Building, Radcliffe Observatory Quarter, Woodstock Road, Oxford. OX2 6GG as your normal place of work. There may be the opportunity for occasional remote working, you will be able to agree a pattern of regular remote working with your line manager.

The position is full-time and funded for two years in the first instance. We have two posts, which are available from 2 December 2024.
