The University of Roehampton London is recruiting to the role of General Bioscience Technician to join our expanding Technical Services team. This is an exciting time to join our technical service as we embark on a new integrated University wide technical team.

ARE YOU?

  • passionate about science.
  • experienced in providing technical support in an Educational or Commercial laboratory with a good working knowledge of bioscience laboratories.
  • skilled in the use of general laboratory equipment such as centrifuge, analytical balance, autoclave, pipettes.
  • skilled in good laboratory practice (CL 1&2) with awareness of health and safety management in the laboratory.
  • enthusiastic, organised, disciplined and self-motivated to work independently and as part of the team.
  • keen to use your knowledge and skills to enhance the student experience in laboratories and support of practical learning.

IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:

  • Prepare and set up laboratories, equipment and materials for a range of experiments in accordance with COSSH and relevant guidelines.
  • Prepare chemical solutions, reagents and standards to specific levels of accuracy.
  • Optimise the use of space, resources and equipment using an online booking system.
  • Demonstrate the use of basic equipment and techniques.
  • Perform daily maintenance of laboratory equipment and areas including gas cylinders, cryogenics and hazardous waste.
  • Ensure equipment is maintained to be safe and clean.
  • Ensure laboratories and other designated spaces are organised and maintained to be safe and clean.

The School of Life and Health Sciences has successful external partnerships, and works closely with stakeholders to ensure the next generation of scientists are ready to make a positive impact in the science and health sectors of society. This role will closely partner with the School and support programmes in Biomedical Science, Biological Science, Health and Nutrition.  You will be part of a team of specialist technicians working in the laboratories located at our  Whitelands College campus.

Our specialist science facilities which support the delivery of academic and research activities within the School, consist of state-of-the-art equipment housed in our suite of laboratories enabling leading research and sophisticated analytical testing, as well as stimulating applied learning for our undergraduate and postgraduate students.  Staff and students also have access to a world class library.
