About the role

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Research Exercise Physiologist to join our multidisciplinary team at the University of Leicester. Based at the Glenfield General Hospital and funded by Heart Research UK (HRUK), you will be a key contributor to our ongoing research into Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD), a condition that primarily affects young to middle-aged women.

Your primary responsibility will be managing the day-to-day operations of a Heart Research UK funded study focused on developing remote exercise support and rehabilitation for SCAD patients. This role involves collecting and analysing data from fitness wearables, conducting cardiopulmonary exercise tests, and leading a feasibility randomised controlled trial to test the effectiveness of a remote SCAD recovery intervention.

You will work closely with a team of researchers and healthcare professionals, contributing to the development and implementation of innovative strategies to support SCAD patients. Your role will also involve publishing research findings, contributing to grant applications, and ensuring that the research translates effectively into clinical practice.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a cutting-edge research environment, contributing to meaningful advancements in cardiovascular health.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will need a PhD (awarded or submitted) in a relevant discipline, along with substantial experience working as a health or research professional. Your expertise in designing and delivering exercise programmes for chronic disease populations will be essential, as will your experience in conducting exercise and functional testing.

You should have a strong understanding of NHS research ethics, GCP, and clinical trial design. Experience with digital health interventions and implementation science methodologies is desirable. Additionally, you will need to be adept at data analysis using tools like SPSS, STATA, or NVivo, and have a proven track record of publishing research in peer-reviewed journals.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are crucial, as is the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. You will also demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional development and an ability to mentor and support junior colleagues.

If you are passionate about improving patient outcomes through innovative research and are looking for an opportunity to make a real impact in the field of cardiovascular science, we encourage you to apply.
