About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for two part-time Library Assistant to join the Reader Services Team at the Bodleian Social Science Library. You will perform a range of essential front-line tasks in one of Oxford University’s busiest lending and research libraries.

You will mainly work at the library help desk, assisting users of the library with their enquiries and with borrowing books. You will also help review course reading lists and re-shelve returned books, as well as working on projects to maintain and improve the usability of the library’s extensive collections.

These are permanent, part-time, term-time posts. The expected working pattern of each post is as follows:

Post 1: 16 hours per week, 30 weeks per year, plus 8 hours per week, 4 weeks per year. Sundays and Mondays in University term-time (weeks 0-9), plus Sundays only during Easter Vacation, except Easter Sunday.

Expected working pattern:

  • Sundays weeks 0-9, 10:45-19:15 (8 hours with 1 x 30 min unpaid break and 2 x 20 min paid breaks)
  • Sundays Easter Vacations, 10:45-19:15 (8 hours with 1 x 30 min unpaid break and 2 x 20 min paid breaks)
  • Mondays weeks 0-9, 13:15-22:15 (8 hours with 1 x 1-hour unpaid break and 2 x 20 min paid breaks)

Post 2: 12 hours per week, 30 weeks per year. Fridays and Saturdays in University term-time (weeks 0-9).

Expected working pattern:

  • Fridays weeks 0-9, 15:45-22:15 (6 hours with 1 x 30 min unpaid break and 1 x 20 min paid break)
  • Saturdays weeks 0-9, 11:45-18:15 (6 hours with 1 x 30 min unpaid break and 1 x 20 min paid break)

About You

You will have a demonstrable commitment to providing excellent customer service.

You will be reliable, punctual and also have good IT and communication skills

You will be able to work effectively as part of a team.

Previous experience of working in a library or similar customer service role is desirable.
