The School of Science and Engineering has an international reputation for excellent teaching and topical research, particularly in addressing global challenges in energy, the environment, health care, technology, forensic science and infrastructure.

The Leverhulme Research Centre for Forensic Science is a 10 year £10 Million project with the remit to disrupt positively the current forensic science ecosystem. As a key appointment in the £10m Leverhulme Research Centre we are recruiting for an exceptional individual to join us as a Laboratory Manager within our team to be responsible for the provision of daily support service requirements for approximately 20 research staff and PhD students working in a multi-disciplinary research environment, encompassing analytical chemistry, materials science, fingerprint enhancement, biology, and transfer and persistence experiments for trace materials.

Your priorities will include:

  • Responsible for the procurement of products and services to meet business requirements ensuring best value: including undertaking market research, negotiating pricing, placing orders, logging deliveries and reconciling invoices queries.
  • Ensure maintenance, servicing, regular testing and security of all equipment based within the Centre, meeting legal requirements where required e.g. Fume Cupboards.
  • Have a full understanding of health and safety regulations for safe working practice.
  • Responsible for assessment of COSHH and risk assessments and staff/student compliance.
  • Ensure cleanliness and safe working environment in Fleming Laboratory, devising protocols, procedures and rotas for good standard practice where necessary.

Who we’re looking for:

  • Candidates must be professionally qualified with a postgraduate degree in a science subject or equivalent experience.
  • Practical experience of handling controlled substances is highly desirable. • Knowledge of health and safety regulations for safe working practices is essential.
  • Strong IT skills including the use of databases.
  • Commitment to innovation and continuous improvement.
