Applications are invited for a Junior Animal Technician (Core Service Technician) to join the institute of Metabolic Science ¿ Metabolic Research Laboratories (IMS-MRL) with the Clinical School of Biochemistry at the University of Cambridge.

The successful applicant will join the Disease Model Core (DMC) Facility as part of the Medical Research Council Metabolic Diseases Unit (MRC-MDU). The role offers a unique opportunity to combine animal technician tasks with research related to metabolic phenotyping as a service to internal and external stakeholders.

Your duties will include regulated and non-regulated procedures in support of metabolic research projects under multiple different project licences, general care of facility common areas, consumable stocking and equipment maintenance and stringent record keeping in accordance with Home Office legislation and University health and safety policies.  You will be required to provide out of core hours cover on a rotating basis.

You will be educated to GCSE level grade A-C/NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in a science subject/ equivalent level of practical experience, is essential. Experience working in an academic or commercial laboratory is also desirable and we welcome applicants with experience working in rodent bio facilities. You must have basic IT skills and be able to demonstrate a methodical approach to problem solving.

Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential to work within a team but occasionally with periods of lone working with minimum supervision.  An honest, conscientious approach, the ability to work to deadlines with attention to detail and the ability to carry out several versatile tasks are essential.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 March 2028 in the first instance.
