About the role
The Bodleian Libraries are seeking a Graduate Trainee to join the Resource Description department. Resource Description is part of Collections Management and is based in the Osney One Building, Osney Mead.
As part of the Bodleian Libraries’ Graduate Trainee scheme, you will enjoy a varied programme of practical work alongside regular training sessions that are designed to provide an overview of the sector, and to foster the skills needed to work in a library. These include training sessions on key skills and areas of librarianship, talks from Bodleian Libraries staff and external speakers, and visits to a number of libraries. Comprehensive in-house training will also be provided by the trainees’ base libraries.
This post sits within the English Cataloguing team whose main focus is on cataloguing and classifying materials in English and Celtic languages. You will also gain experience of other teams and areas within the Collections and Resource Description department such as Acquisitions, EResources and Legal Deposit Operations. You will explore and develop technical skills essential to library work whilst playing a critical role in supporting the service C&RD provides to the wider Libraries. In addition, there will be an opportunity to spend some time in a reader-facing environment.
This is a one-year fixed term post, working 36.5 hours per week, open to graduates of any age who are considering a career in this field and may wish to undertake a postgraduate Librarianship and/or Information Management course.
These traineeships are intended for new entrants to the sector. Please do not apply if you already have, or are currently doing, an undergraduate or postgraduate degree related to Librarianship and/or Information Management, or if you have already completed a Library Traineeship.
This role requires lifting and carrying books and pushing trolleys.
