About the role
We are looking for a Reader Services Manager (Evenings & Weekends) to work in the historic Bodleian Library, made up of the Old Bodleian Library and Radcliffe Camera. These iconic buildings house Humanities collections in English, History, Classics, Philosophy, Theology and Reference as well as a well- used History lending collection and the Bodleian’s Main Enquiry Desk.
You will be in charge of the site during evenings and weekends and manage a small team of staff to cover services out of hours. You will provide a knowledgeable enquiry service and handle more complex queries referred on by other staff. In liaison with Security colleagues you will handle any abnormal situations and take decisions about the safety of the site.
This is a permanent, part-time post, working on average approximately 11 hours per week. The working hours are: weekly Wednesday evening duty 3.15pm-9-15pm, 1 in 4 Friday duty 4.45pm – 9.15pm, fortnightly Sunday duty 10.45am – 7.15pm. The working hours are the same all year round.
About You
You will be educated to A level or equivalent qualification and have experience in a library or similar environment.
You will have excellent communication skills and be able to prioritise tasks and take initiative.
You will have experience of supervising and motivating staff and will be able to provide a high-quality user focused service.
Experience of using library information systems, e-resources and databases is desirable.
