The Centre for Human Inspired Artificial Intelligence (CHIA) seeks to appoint two Assistant Professors to lead our new PhD and MPhil courses in Human-Inspired AI, with the first intake planned for October 2025.
Educated to a PhD level, the role holders will have core technical expertise in machine learning, human-computer interaction, computer vision, speech and/or natural language processing, robotics, mobile systems or another area of human-facing AI. In addition to excellence in research and teaching in their area, we emphasise a proven ability to work interdisciplinarily with other disciplines that are central to the development of human-inspired AI (e.g., arts and humanities or social, cognitive, clinical, environmental or other relevant sciences). Successful candidates will have prior experience of teaching delivery and ideally also of the design of teaching materials. They will have excellent presentation and communication skills.
The post holders will be expected to co-lead on delivering CHIA's new PhD and MPhil in Human-Inspired Artificial Intelligence, conduct impactful and internationally leading research in their areas of speciality, and contribute to the long-term development of CHIA.
The successful candidates will be based at CHIA within the Institute for Technology and Humanity in central Cambridge. CHIA brings together an interdisciplinary community of researchers to investigate the innovative ways in which human and machine intelligence can be combined to yield AI which is capable of contributing to social and global progress. Designed to deliver both academic and real-world impact, the Centre seeks to partner with academic, industrial, and other organisations that share interest in human-inspired AI.
More information about CHIA and our research can be found at www.chia.cam.ac.uk.
