As a Senior Technician at the University of Plymouth, you will be expected to support the provision of outstanding undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research, and knowledge transfer initiatives such as contract research and commercial consultancy through the Digital Fabrication Laboratory. To support skills development amongst the University’s students, in respect to both taught subjects and research. To ensure that technical support is of the highest standard to enable and enhance the employability of our students and the reputation of the Faculty, School and University, and excellent collegiate partnership.
The role is directly responsible for the running and associated supply of materials and maintenance of the Digital Fabrication resources, including high spec CAD Pcs, laser cutting, FDM and Resin 3D printing, 3D scanning and 2.5D/3D CNC milling technologies in wide-ranging 2D/3D projects. The Digital Fabrication Laboratory is part of a broader provision of technical workshops and digital technologies in our Faculty, alongside the Digital Design and fabrication (production and manufacture) Immersive Media Laboratory (VR, immersive media, motion capture) wood and metals fabrication. Within this exciting and multi-disciplinary environment, skills such as collaborative work are required to enable exciting, novel and cutting-edge digital fabrication projects with our students and key user groups.

We are looking for a positive and resourceful individual who can develop strong professional working relationships with our students, academic staff and our professional partners. You must be able to work as part of a team and be self-motivated with the initiative to prioritise workloads and fulfil technical tasks and duties set out by the School Technical Manager. As a member of the school’s technical specialists, you will also be required to support the teaching and learning of our school's programmes, through high-quality technical inductions and support, within a range of specialist facilities and resources associated to the skills of the role. The role requires a high level of skills and knowledge within this discipline, along with experience in technical delivery, using stock production, control and booking

This is a permanent, full-time, term-time position working 37 hours per week for 35 weeks per year (0.78 FTE – actual salary £22,432 per annum).
