Building Services Engineer

University of Plymouth - Building and Engineering

Location: Devon, Plymouth
Salary: £38,205 to £44,263 Grade 7, per annum
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 5th July 2024
Closes: 31st July 2024
Job Ref: B0287

The University of Plymouth is one of the higher education sector’s leading institutions for sustainability.  We have embraced the challenges facing the planet and our path to net zero has created a toolkit which unifies our research, teaching and social responsibility.

The Estates & Facilities directorate is seeking to appoint a Building Services Engineer. We are looking for an engineer with a high level of understanding of building services, ideally a member of the Chartered Institute of Building services Engineers or working towards that or an equivalent. Other skills, such as Project Management, though an advantage can be developed within the role. You may have worked as a building services installer or maintainer, worked or trained on building system design, or have completed building services related training; the fundamental requirement is strong building services knowledge.

This is an exciting opportunity for a engineering professional to join our Building and Engineering Team and help lead the installation and management of mechanical and electrical system projects. You will take a lead role with the team to deliver the University’s sustainability and climate emergency (net zero) programme and its associated decarbonisation plan. From LED lighting, to Solar Photovoltaic and Heat Pump installations, your work will be hugely rewarding as you personally deliver the solutions that are decarbonising our estate. You will work very closely with the Maintenance and Project Management Teams to help specify, advise on and manage M&E systems from concept through to commissioning and handover.

The post will be based at the University’s Plymouth city campus.  The University supports flexible working where possible, but we are a campus community and for these roles find working together in person works best, so there will be a requirement to work regularly on campus to ensure collegiality.  This is a full-time post working 37 hours a week on a permanent basis and will need to be flexed according to the demands of the role.

For an informal discussion to find out more about the role then please contact:

Brad Crocker by email at Brad.Crocker@plymouth.ac.uk.

Closing date: 12 Midnight, Wednesday 31st July 2024

Interviews will take place on Friday 9th August 2024 and you will be notified if you have been shortlisted or not.

We offer a competitive salary package and a generous pension and holiday scheme. We also offer a range of other benefits/support mechanisms, including ongoing development opportunities, flexible working, staff networks and enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption leave.

A summary of our comprehensive benefits can be viewed here.

We regret that there is no opportunity to work from home in this position.

A successful external candidate for this position would be employed by the University of Plymouth Services Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of Plymouth. Employees of the University of Plymouth Services Limited work alongside the University of Plymouth colleagues in delivery of Plymouth’s strategic vision, and will adopt the University of Plymouth’s HR policies and procedures in full unless otherwise stated.
