Pending GMC approval, the University of Hertfordshire is planning to open a new Medical School with the first cohort of students starting in September 2026.

We have a core team already working on the project, with St George’s Medical School, University of London, acting as our sponsor.   We are now seeking to expand our team to develop and fully implement the MBBS programme.  Newly appointed staff will receive full support from our existing team.

Main duties and responsibilities
You will play a crucial role in overseeing the clinical education and training components of the MBBS curriculum, leading on all clinical aspects of MBBS from completion of application to internal validation and GMC accreditation of the programme.  You will lead on the adoption and adaption of the clinical components of St George’s curriculum and on the further development, implementation and continuous improvement of the programme, integrating innovative teaching methods and technology-enhanced learning tools.  You will coordinate and participate in the delivery of clinical teaching sessions and establish a programme of supervision and mentorship for clinical educators.  You will ensure robust assessment and evaluation strategies are in place to evaluate student clinical competencies and performance.  You will support the Dean in building and maintaining strong relationships with affiliated healthcare facilities and work in close collaboration with other UH schools, academic faculty, clinical educators, and healthcare partners to ensure the delivery of high-quality clinical education that prepares students for professional medical practice in accordance with General Medical Council (GMC) standards.

Skills and experience required
The successful candidate will be able to evidence significant clinical experience (Consultant level), preferably with a background in medical education or academic leadership, combined with expertise in clinical teaching and curriculum development and experience in developing and implementing assessment strategies for clinical competencies and in working with the deaneries, NHS England and East of England/other regions.

You must have strong leadership, organisational, and interpersonal skills, excellent presentation skills and strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.  You must be able to work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders.

Qualifications required
A medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) with full registration and licensure to practice medicine by the GMC is essential.
