We at Birkbeck, University of London, are pleased to announce an opening for a Lecturer in Law. Birkbeck Law School forms part of Birkbeck’s Business and Law Faculty and is an internationally respected centre for world class legal teaching and research.

We are looking for an exceptional Lecturer (Research & Teaching) to join the School this autumn term on a full-time, permanent contract.

We’re especially looking for those with expertise in; private law (in particular, but not exclusively, contract law and commercial law); legal practice (including legal procedure, dispute resolution etc.); law and technology; and environmental law.

As a Lecturer in Law, you will be:

  • Teaching across any of the 7 Foundations of Legal Knowledge, as well as further contributing to programme curriculum.
  • Employing innovations in teaching and learning, to meet the learning needs of students, through the development of teaching materials, forms of pedagogy, or appropriate teaching collaborations.
  • Developing research objectives, projects and proposals with the assistance of a mentor if required, whilst on Academic Probation; writing up research work for publication; and identifying sources of funding and contribute to the process of securing funds.

As a Lecturer in Law, you will need to have:

  • Teaching experience at degree/postgraduate level or similar.
  • An understanding of different teaching and learning methods and experience of working with students from a range of backgrounds.
  • An ability to lecture and conduct seminars clearly and effectively, with the assistance of a mentor if required, whilst on Academic Probation.
  • Organisation and administration skills.
  • Interpersonal skills to relate well to students especially mature students.

Remuneration
£42,365 rising to £58,554 per annum. The salary is on the College's London Pay Scale which includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the London area.
