We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Associate to join the Department of Materials Science and Engineering to explore the alloy development and thermomechanical processing of advanced reduced activation ferritic martensitic (ARAFM) steels for fusion energy.
This project is in support of the NEURONE (NEUtron iRradiatiOn of advaNced stEels) programme which is funded by the UKAEA and UK Fusion Futures programme. The aim of the NEURONE programme is to develop and deliver an industrially scalable fusion-grade advanced steel capable of operating at 650°C in a fusion breeder-blanket environment.
We are seeking candidates who hold (or are close to completion of) a PhD in materials science, engineering, or physical science, with experience in steel research. You should also have experience in characterisation of metallurgical microstructures and carrying out mechanical property testing.
