Job Summary 

The role focuses on conducting research on how to develop indicators for preparing for future pandemics. Responsibilities include leading research programs focused on health systems, managing projects related to indicator development, and overseeing multidisciplinary teams. Additionally, the Research Associate will be responsible for publishing research findings in peer-reviewed journals and seeking external research funding. 

The Research Associate will join our team of statisticians, epidemiologists, clinical research fellows, data scientists, health systems scientists, PhD students and support staff, and will be expected to contribute to various large-scale projects. 

Duties and responsibilities 

  • You will be expected to lead and design research studies with the field of pandemic preparedness using data from several hundred thousand (or even millions) of individuals (clinical trials, disease registries, cohort studies, primary care records, biobanks and systematic reviews and meta-analyses).      
  • You will assist in managing projects, and supervising multidisciplinary teams designing, conducting, and interpreting systematic reviews, quantitative and qualitative studies with an overall goal of developing evidence-based recommendations that will improve the health of millions of women and men. 

Essential requirements

  • With a PhD in Health Systems, public health, statistics, data science, or a related subject with both a quantitative and qualitative emphasis or a closely related discipline, or equivalent research, industrial or commercial experience.
  • Knowledge of research qualitative and quantitative methods and statistical procedures
  • Practical experience within a research environment and / or publications in relevant and refereed journals.

Further Information 

This post is full- time, fixed-term for 2 years and is available immediately. You will be based in The George Institute Scale Space Building Imperial College City Campus. 

*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as a Research Assistant within the salary range £41,694 - £44,888 per annum.

Hybrid working may be considered for this role. Staff working in roles that are suitable for hybrid working will normally be expected to work 60% of their time onsite. The opportunity for hybrid working will be discussed at interview.
