The Role - What will you be doing?

The Graduate Ambassador (Widening Access and Participation) will contribute to the delivery of widening participation activities at Durham. They will therefore support the University in achieving objectives set out in the University’s existing and future Access and Participation Plan. They will particularly support projects that seek to support admissions pathways to the University, working with young people and with schools and colleges to encourage recruitment from under-represented backgrounds.

The post holder will be expected to work with colleagues to assist with current and future deliverables of the University’s Access and Participation Plan (APP) and associated student recruitment strategies. The main expectation of the role is to assist with delivery of activities and events for young people. This may include presentations, workshops, school visits, campus tours, day events and other similar activities. The post holder will also be expected to assist with the planning and delivery of the widening access programmes, including supporting the residential summer schools. The postholder is likely be expected to create, organise and deliver activities and events both at Durham and offsite. As such, they may be expected to support activities for internal and external stakeholders, including young people, teachers/advisers, parents/carers, collaborative partners and University colleagues

The postholder will also help with wider functions within Student Recruitment and Admissions such as open days, UCAS Fairs, and confirmation & clearing.

The Graduate Ambassador (Widening Access and Participation) will maintain an up-to-date knowledge of sector wide good practice and developments; using this to continuously develop service provision and improve outcomes, specifically, conversion rates. They will also monitor and evaluate delivery, with a focus on increasing the impact of activity in relation to rates of progression to Higher Education and to Durham University specifically.

The Department and our Team

Based in the Student and Academic Services Directorate, Student Recruitment and Admissions (SRA) comprises approximately 100 staff and brings together several teams providing services in events, enquiry management, widening access and participation, outreach, schools liaison, CRM campaigns, data analysis and forecasting, systems development, and admissions.

SRA provides a critical service to the University in ensuring its financial sustainability, delivering target student numbers and increasing diversity in line with strategic aims and targets. It is the public face of the University in UK schools and colleges, through contact with prospects, enquirers and applicants across the world, and through our events programme. The department includes a range of professionals from a number of specialisms including administrators, decision makers, data analysts and forecasters, IT specialists, designers and marketers, events manage rs and recruiters. Teams work collaboratively, using the expertise across the department to jointly deliver the optimum service to our internal and external customers. The department is also responsible for adherence to requisite regulations and UCAS contract requirements.
