We are delighted to be seeking to recruit several new colleagues to join the flourishing Department of Cultural, Media and Visual Studies in the School of Cultures, Languages and Area Studies at the University of Nottingham. These new colleagues will join a thoroughly interdisciplinary community of scholars with global perspectives and approaches and contribute to a vibrant and collegial research-led learning environment. Our courses position our world-leading research at the centre of the learning experience and prepare our students to be active and adaptive participants in the increasingly complex and technologized cultural, creative and media environments of the future.

One of the appointments we are seeking is a Teaching Associate who will provide teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level in Media & Creative Industries and provide advice as a member of a teaching team within an established programme of study.

The role holder will have knowledge and teaching experience of media and communication studies and creative and cultural industries, including teaching these subjects at Master’s level to small group seminars.

Our School thrives through the different ideas and experiences of colleagues, who come from a mix of cultures and backgrounds. We strive to foster a welcoming, inspiring and supportive workplace. We are seeking applications from candidates whose background, experience and identity broadens and enhances the diversity of our existing team and would especially welcome applications from members of groups who are currently underrepresented in the School, particularly Black, Asian and minority ethnic candidates. We understand that having a mix of perspectives, lived experiences and approaches to teaching and research enhances our day-to-day work and enriches our School community.

Candidates must hold a PhD in Media & Communications; Film/Screen Studies; Creative & Cultural Industries or related fields, and have previous experience of teaching at Higher Education level. You should have detailed knowledge of teaching methods and techniques and growing practical experience of application of teaching skills and techniques to university courses.

This role is available on a fixed-term contract until 31/01/2025. Hours of work are full-time (36.25 hours). Job share arrangements may be considered.

Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.

Candidates should attach a CV, publication list, and a covering letter stating why they are suitable for the role with their application.
