Research Assistant - RE-STAR

About us:

The post-holder will be based in the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King’s College London, joining Europe’s largest grouping of youth-focused mental health scientists, clinical academics and researchers at the newly established Pears Maudsley Centre for Children and Young People 

About the role:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated pre-doctoral researcher to work on a new project within our research programme – RE-STAR (Regulating Emotions – Strengthening Adolescent Resilience). Based at King’s College London, RE-STAR is a multi-disciplinary and cross- institution programme of research bringing together developmental psychology, data science, psychiatry and neuroscience with educational studies and the performing arts. Its goal is to better understand the role played by emotional responding in the development of mental health problems in neurodivergent adolescents such as those with ADHD and autism; and then to translate the knowledge gained into new school-based interventions tailored to the needs of these young people. The post-holder will work on the third RE-STAR work package as part of a team with the RE-STAR Programme Manager and a post-doctoral Research Associate.

This is a full time (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed-term contract until 31/08/25.

About you:

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

1. Undergraduate (or conversion) degree in psychology, health data science, health-related or other relevant subject.  
2. An understanding of the challenges facing neurodivergent adolescents such as those with ADHD and autism traits.
3. Experience of conducting research with children/adolescents.
4. Experience of working on a project delivered on time and to target.
5. Knowledge of guidance relating to data confidentiality / security in research.
6. Evidence of research-related computing skills: word processing, Endnote, Qualtrics, packages to support data analysis.
7. Rigour and accuracy in managing and analysing data.
8. Ability to work independently as well as within a larger team.

Desirable criteria

1. Postgraduate qualification in psychology, or other relevant subject – or equivalent experience
2. Flexible working hours
3. Experience of working with neurodivergent young people.
