The Researcher Development Manager leads training and development for the University of Northampton’s postgraduate research student community. They manage the delivery of a high-quality researcher development programme, including doctoral induction, development workshops and annual events. They work across the University’s Faculties and Institutes, advising students and supervisors on training needs. They ensure that the Researcher Development provision aligns with the University’s Research Plan, the UK Quality Code for Higher Education and the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers. They are part of the Graduate School team and manage a Researcher Development Administrator, who assists with organising events.

About You

The successful applicant will be an experienced researcher developer, with a track record of designing and delivering researcher development programmes. They will have excellent knowledge and understanding of the current postgraduate research environment and of developments in the sector, to ensure currency in the delivery of research services to support postgraduate research. They will work closely with colleagues in the Graduate School and across the University, and will also engage key internal and external stakeholders in the development of events and training. They will have excellent skills in time management, organisation, leadership, communication, problem-solving and event delivery.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Good Honours degree 
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable:

  • Relevant vocational/professional qualification and/or membership of a relevant professional body
  • MRes, PhD or equivalent

Research and Knowledge Exchange

The Graduate School sits within the Directorate of Research and Knowledge Exchange. At the University of Northampton, all postgraduate researchers are overseen by the Graduate School, which has responsibility for administration, quality assurance and development. The Researcher Development Manager therefore has overall responsibility for postgraduate research student development across the whole University.
