The International Growth Centre (IGC) works with policymakers in developing countries to promote inclusive and sustainable growth through pathbreaking research. We generate new evidence and innovative new ideas to improve the productivity of people and firms, as the key driver of sustainable economic development, and to support our government partners in transitioning to low-carbon growth pathways and protecting vulnerable populations. The IGC is a global research centre with a network of world-leading researchers and in-country teams and initiatives working across Africa, South Asia, and the Middle East. Based at LSE and in partnership with the University of Oxford, we are majority funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).

The IGC is currently seeking a Senior Country Economist or Country Economist based in Amman.

Senior Country Economists lead on establishing relationships with key stakeholders and work closely with the leadership team to shape and implement the country strategy. Additional responsibilities include leading on project generation, facilitating cross-country learning and conducting research. The team supports researchers in implementing research projects and identifying opportunities for policy engagement; manages country programme activities and generates reports on research and policy developments; contributes to the ongoing evaluation of the programme; supports the dissemination of research outputs to maximise policy impact; and works on IGC research projects where opportunities arise. The country leadership team includes a Country Director, a Senior Advisor, and Lead Academic and the team also includes a Junior Programme Officer. Country Economists work with the country leadership team in developing and implementing the country strategy, identifying opportunities for policy influence, connecting researchers with policy makers and supporting the generation of research projects, and undertaking economic analysis and writing policy briefs.

Applicants should have strong economics skills, excellent quantitative skills in economic analysis, a sophisticated understanding of economic policy, and hold a post-graduate degree in economics, public policy, or a related discipline. Successful applicants will be self-starters with excellent written and oral communication skills. They will also demonstrate a team-oriented, respectful and collaborative approach to working with others. Fluency in Arabic is desirable. If not fluent, postholders should be learning Arabic.
