About us

Biological Services provide facilities, services, and advice for all research scientists within King's College London who need to carry out research using animals. Such work is ethically reviewed, carefully regulated, and kept to a minimum within the overall objectives of advancing knowledge in biomedical research. Alternatives to research involving animals are always used where possible.

About the role

Working with the Biological Services Central Team, the NIO/Administration Support Officer will identify the most appropriate medium to research and disseminate up-to-date information on legislation and regulations, the implementation of the 3Rs, and other guiding principles for research within Biological Services. The post-holder will be expected to have an active involvement in the College’s AWERB and also to keep up to date with ASRU‘s policies and newsletters. This will require the establishment and management of information systems for the benefit of Biological Services staff and researchers. The individual will also be expected to support users of the department’s animal colony management databases, MCMS and ARMIS, as well as ASPeL, the Home Office’s licensing database. It is the responsibility of the NIO to ensure that the institution’s researchers working with animals have access to information about the species being used and the procedures they are performing.

Alongside the NIO component of the role, there will be an expectation to support administration within the Biological Services Central Team, including financial management and other tasks as required.

This is a full time role (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.
