The role

The Jean Golding Institute (JGI) (www.bristol.ac.uk/golding) is a University Research Institute (URI) supporting interdisciplinary research in data science and AI. We support researchers with funding for seed corn projects, networking opportunities as well as data science support. The JGI also manages the relationship with The Alan Turing Institute, the UK Institute for data science and AI (www.turing.ac.uk), that brings together experts from academia, industry, and government to tackle complex societal problems.

The Liaison Manager is an exciting role and vital one in driving the development of the partnership, the post holder will be the primarily link between the University and the Turing as well as the wider Turing University Network (TUN) of 64 partner universities. The post holder will develop and manage relationships with key stakeholders across sectors and organisations and seek to develop new collaborative initiatives that benefit the University and aim to create new programmes of research. The role holder will be expected to attend meetings at Turing HQ based in the British Library periodically.

The role is currently funded until July 2025, however, the partnership will be renewed then and it is highly likely that the role will continue.

What will you be doing?

This is an exciting time as the Turing is developing its new strategy and your role will be key to find synergies across organisations, the post holder will work on:

  • Designing and delivering a variety of project support mechanisms (regular meetings, project reviews, workshops, interest groups, high profile events and presentations, etc)
  • Disseminating information internally and across the Turing about opportunities and shared areas of interest and activity.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of strategies and business plans, including future grant bids, identify funding opportunities and support the preparation of applications for new awards. Importantly, you will also support applications to the Turing Fellowship scheme.
  • Facilitating interactions and managing key relationships with relevant partners and act as a focal point for receiving and distributing information with regards to collaboration and partnership activities. Specifically, you will be the main contact for Turing Fellows and organisers of Turing Interest Groups.
  • Participate in events hosted by The Alan Turing Institute both online and in person (in London HQ, based at the British Library) as well other events organised by the TUN across the UK.

You should apply if

  • You have proven experience managing complex research partnerships.
  • You have excellent communication and networking skills who enjoys working in a busy environment.  
  • You have strong organisational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple and often conflicting priorities and deadlines.
  • You work well independently and are a strategic thinker with a proactive approach to problem-solving and innovation.
