The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is one of the world’s leading public health universities. Our mission is to improve health and health equity in the UK and worldwide; working in partnership to achieve excellence in public and global health research, education and translation of knowledge into policy and practice.
This post involves combining mathematical models with detailed data from a novel cohort study to understand how sequential influenza and SARS-CoV-2 infections and vaccination influences protection against future exposure, and the impact of prior immunity on vaccination effectiveness. This involves the development and parameterisation of a range of dynamic models and makes use of some of the best available data for these pathogens, including longitudinal data on B cell responses and antibody titres, in collaboration with the WHO Collaborating Centre for Reference and Research on Influenza in Melbourne.
The post-holder will join a successful and supportive research group working on a range of infections, including influenza and SARS-CoV-2, with considerable scope to develop their own research within the field, in collaboration with colleagues at LSHTM and international partners. It is expected that the project will involve a range of complex and original scientific research that requires a high degree of personal motivation.
The successful applicant will have a postgraduate degree, ideally a doctoral degree in mathematical modelling, statistics, epidemiology or another relevant discipline with a strong quantitative component. Candidates should also demonstrate experience in mathematical modelling and have a promising publication record. Further particulars are included in the job description.
The post is full-time, 35 hours per week, 1FTE and fixed-term until 30 June 2025.
The post is funded by the NIH and is available from 01 July 2024.
The salary will be on the Academic Pathway salary scale, Grade 6 in the range £43,947-£49,908 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro-rata for part-time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London.
Applications should be made on-line by clicking the 'Apply' button, above, and will be accepted until 10pm of the closing date.
