We are seeking to appoint a suitably qualified Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered Advanced Biomedical Scientist to join our busy Parasitology Reference Laboratory based within the Faculty of Infectious and Tropical Diseases at LSHTM.
The successful applicant will be part of a small team that provides a highly specialised laboratory service. The laboratory comprises the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) Malaria Reference Laboratory (MRL) and the LSHTM Diagnostic Parasitology Laboratory (DPL).
The role holder will assist the Principal Biomedical Scientist with the provision of the diagnostic service. They will have responsibility for the day-to-day running of the non-molecular diagnostic laboratory, overseeing staff and allocating tasks ensuring that clinical specimens are processed and diagnosed within their stated turnaround times. The role holder will be involved in all processes in the laboratory including receipt, processing, diagnosing, validating and reporting of all clinical specimens.
The successful candidate must have advanced specialist knowledge and proven extensive experience in diagnostic parasitology. They will possess excellent communication, organisational and time management skills. They must be able to work under pressure and be able to meet deadlines, be flexible and adaptable and show that they are motivated and willing to develop knowledge and skills in themselves and others. This is a permanent post which is available from 09 September 2024. Salary is on the Professional Services Grade 6 scale in the range £43,947 - £49,908 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in Keppel Street, London at LSHTM.
