About the role

We are pleased to offer an opportunity to be a 0.5 part time Lecturer member of the academic course team in BA (Hons) Architecture (RIBA/ARB Part 1) which is part of the School of Design and Architecture at Arts University Bournemouth. There may also be opportunities for crossover tutoring roles in the AUB MArch (RIBA/ARB Part 2) course.

Specific Skillsets: Architectural Design + Contextual and Critical Studies and/or Communication specialism.

The successful applicant chosen for interview will have accumulated professional architectural practice experience as well as, ideally, prior architectural tutoring experience at HE university level. They must be capable and experienced in architectural design with specialist expertise and experience in the subject area of Contextual and Critical Studies (for example evidence of published peer reviewed work, publications, and research in history and theory related to architecture) and/or Communication (for example fluent expertise in 2D and 3D computer software applied to architectural design work (InDesign, Graphic Design, Architectural Photography, Rhino, BIM, SketchUp Pro, AutoCAD, Projection Mapping, Animation, etc.).

The architecture-based Communication specialism can include 2D and 3D expertise in physical and visual work such as architectural drawing, print making, book binding, and architectural model making. The design and specialist subject areas will need to be current and evidenced in the application through both text and visual examples.

As a lecturer and tutor, you will not only be expected to become conversant with, and apply, all appropriate AUB regulations, policies and practices relevant to your role, but also to demonstrate patience, reflection and self-awareness. Therefore, working with a diverse range of staff and students, you will be empathetic and respectful of difference, clear in communication and flexible in approach.

The role of 0.5 Lecturer will likely be attractive to applicants who may already work part time in professional architectural or design practice but wish to add high quality tutoring and academic experience at HE level to their skillsets. 

The successful candidate will work closely with the Course Leader for BA (Hons) Architecture (RIBA/ARB Part 1), to enable close integration and promote progression from Part 1 to Part 2, ultimately ensuring growth and the ongoing strength of the offer at AUB.
