About ARU:
ARU is a global university transforming lives through innovative, inclusive and entrepreneurial education and research. ARU holds a gold award for the quality of its education, awarded through the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF). ARU’s research institutes and four faculties bridge scientific, technical and creative fields. We deliver impactful research which tackles pressing issues and makes a real difference to our communities. Our academic excellence has been recognised by the UK’s Higher Education funding bodies, with 16 of our research areas assessed as world leading. We are the largest provider of Nursing, Midwifery, Health and Social Care students in the East of England, and we are also among the UK’s leading universities for degree apprenticeship provision, working with hundreds of employers across the UK.
About the Role:
This is an exciting opportunity for two post-doctoral researchers to join the new Digital Innovation and Smart Places (DISP) research team at ARU. This multi-disciplinary group, led by Prof Jennifer Schooling OBE, investigates how data and digital tools influence urban policy, governance and infrastructure. Following a socio-technical perspective, we explore how responsible implementation of emerging digital technologies enhance public service delivery and organisational capabilities.
Based at our Cambridge campus, you will expand DISP’s research on place-based digital innovation. You will collaborate with public and private sector partners and national/international academic colleagues, utilising our strategic location at the geographical heart of digital innovation in the UK to develop impactful research aligned with ARU’s civic and economic goals.
You hold (or are near completing) a PhD in a relevant subject such as: urban modelling; land use and transport planning; smart and sustainable cities; urban data analytics; ethical uses of artificial intelligence; new public administration; public policy and local government; or digital innovation in the public sector. You will conduct independent and collaborative research, using a range of quantitative and/or qualitative methods, case studies and action research. Experience in project management and working with industry or public sector partners are desirable but not essential.
Informal enquiries can be made to Prof Jennifer Schooling, Professor of Digital Innovation and Smart Places, at jennifer.schooling@aru.ac.uk.
We have an agile working culture and offer an extensive range of benefits including generous holiday entitlement, occupational pension schemes, training and development opportunities, travel to work scheme and a competitive relocation package. Visit our benefits page for full details.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting welfare of our staff and students and expect all staff to share this commitment.
We value diversity at ARU and welcome applications from all sections of the community.
We have a responsibility to ensure that all employees are eligible to live and work in the UK.
Committed to being inclusive and open to discuss flexible working.
Please note that we may close this vacancy early depending on the number and quality of applications received.
