The School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Birmingham is seeking to appoint an Assistant Professor to help develop and deliver our exciting range of postgraduate and professional education in the Urban Planning field.

Our Planning team in GEES has a national and international reputation for the quality of its postgraduate and undergraduate Planning teaching. This profile has grown in recent years with the introduction of our Level 7 Chartered Town Planner Degree Apprenticeship (DA), an MSc in Urban Planning in our Dubai campus and a new postgraduate Distance Learning programme. Most recently we have confirmed plans to introduce a new MSc Sustainable Urban Planning and Design in 2025 to strengthen the international and urban design/place-making dimensions of our UK campus portfolio.

To support our growth strategy, we are looking for an ambitious and passionate individual to develop and deliver content for the new MSc Sustainable Urban Planning and Design programme, as well as contribute to our existing accredited postgraduate courses. There is also scope to contribute to our highly successful BSc Geography and Urban and Regional Planning programme. As we expand and diversify our portfolio, we are seeking a new colleague who can complement our existing planning team; we are particularly interested in applicants who can support our urban design, sustainability, placemaking, and international planning practice work areas. A background in the fields of urban and/or landscape design along with some experience of studio style teaching in these disciplines would be particularly desirable.
