The Department of Construction and Surveying, within the School of Computing, Engineering and Built Environment, is a dynamic and vibrant academic community with a strong track record in applied research, innovative teaching, and knowledge transfer activities. The department encompasses the academic areas of Building Surveying, Construction Management and Quantity Surveying. We have 22 academic staff and approximately 1000 students enrolled on our Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes.

We are looking for enthusiastic and inspirational individuals to contribute to the continued growth of Quantity Surveying within the Department. The candidates will play a leading role in the delivery and management of Quantity Surveying programmes, which includes both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and will teach core Quantity Surveying subject areas (including but not limited to Contracts, Cost Studies, Economics and Measurement) as well as contribute more broadly to teaching requirements across the Department, where applicable.

Candidates should have substantial expertise in professional practice, evidencing the skill set required in quantity surveying and/or a track record in relevant areas of research.  Ideally, the candidates will also have experience of using relevant digital costing and measurement-based software. The candidates will assist in the supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate research projects.

Additionally, the candidates will expand our external collaboration networks for both research and teaching (contributing to the growth and development of our research, consultancy, and knowledge transfer activities), contribute to new and enhanced curricula and taught provision in areas relevant to Quantity Surveying, and inspire current and future students. We are seeking individuals who have a passion and enthusiasm to deliver innovations in learning and teaching and to develop research and knowledge exchange opportunities. Individuals will be expected to explore novel and emerging areas of construction and deliver excellent quality teaching.

Candidates for these lecturer posts should be educated to at least MSc level, or to a bachelor’s degree level with a minimum of 3 years’ relevant industry experience. Experience in relevant industry sectors will be highly regarded and Professional membership highly valued. We seek both practitioners and academics with a good working knowledge related to our accrediting Professional Bodies.

We welcome enthusiastic individuals who may be new to academia but are passionate about quantity surveying and eager to pass knowledge on to the next generation of surveyors. If you have excelled in industry or have recently completed your education and would like to progress to that next step in your development within an academic environment, then this role is for you.

Details on these posts are available by contacting Dr Nigel Craig, Head of Department, Construction and Surveying at ncr@gcu.ac.uk
