Role Summary
The Assistant Professor in Teacher Education: Modern Languages will lead the curriculum design of the Modern Languages specialism, deliver subject specialist teaching, assessment and support to ITE students within the secondary initial teacher education programme (PGCE (QTS)) at the University of Birmingham.
We are looking for an expert modern languages’ teacher and teacher educator with demonstrable competencies in French, Spanish and German and a strong academic background to provide subject-specific pedagogical input to the programme. The postholder will have a passion for languages teaching in schools and be able to enthuse, engage and inspire trainee teachers to generate this in their pupils. The postholder will need expertise and experience in teacher education and development, ideally working with trainee or early career teachers.
The postholder will contribute to aspects of wider ITE programmes, for example Professional Enquiry activities and recruitment activity, working collaboratively with other subject specialist tutors.
An important part of the role will be supporting trainees on placements and managing relationships with expert colleagues and partnership schools. This will include quality assurance, mentor development and assessment of trainees against the Teacher Standards.
