About the role

We are recruiting for an Animal Technician to join the Biomedical Research facility team. Working closely with researchers, academics and other technicians you will be part of a small team responsible for the provision of high-quality animal care and welfare to animals and aquatics housed in our research facilities. This will involve day-to-day colony management, welfare, husbandry and assistance with technical support activities. Participation in pre-experimental meetings with Users in the design of research experiments as directed by the BRF Technical Supervisor or nominee. Full training will be provided relating to Home Office and Health and Safety Legislation and how they relate to the Biomedical Research Facility. Previous experience working with animals/aquatics in an animal research facility and a Home Office Personal licence would be advantageous. The facility operates a rota system to provide cover at weekends, University closure days and Bank Holidays, and therefore the successful candidate will be required to work outside of normal working hours.

About you

We are looking for a motivated individual who has a caring attitude for animals and a commitment to animal care and welfare, a flexible approach to work and the ability to work in a small team.  

Ideally you will be educated to Level 2 - NVQ Level 2, BTEC award, certificate and diploma level 2 in Animal Care/Technology, 4-5 GCSEs at grade A* - C, Higher Diplomas (England) and have hands on experience working with animals and/or /aquatics in a research environment.

We are looking for someone who thrives working in a collaborative environment, communicates effectively across varied teams, and is confident managing priorities independently. Knowledge of Health and Safety, quality standards and the Animal (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 would be an advantage. You will have proven IT and effective organisational skills.
