We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Immunologist, to join the pre-erythrocytic (PE) malaria group at the Jenner Institute, Nuffield Department of Medicine. You will be part of the clinical trials team and will work on the evaluation of candidate vaccines in clinical trials. The role will include undertaking and developing assays for the evaluation of vaccine candidates in human clinical trials, analysing and presenting data, contributing to manuscripts for publication and training, and supervising junior staff.
You will participate in the research programme led by Professor Adrian Hill and Dr. Lisa Stockdale and lead on the conduct of immunology assays for VAC096, a phase 1 clinical trial to assess a novel escalating dose administration regimen led by Dr. Susanne Hodgson. You will be tasked with liaising with funders and collaborators, performing assays, interpreting results, managing and analyse immunology datasets, and presenting this to members of the group, and the wider Jenner Institute. You will contribute immunology/vaccine expertise, as requested, to other Jenner Institute programmes and collaborating Institutes. You will also be responsible for taking oversight of junior lab members assessing immune responses to the R21/Matrix-M vaccine in novel dosing regimens.
To be successful in this role, you will hold a PhD/DPhil (or close to completion) in a subject relevant to immunology/vaccine development, along with practical immunology experience assessing humoral and cellular immune responses in infectious diseases and/or vaccines. You will have a keen interest in vaccine development, human immunology, and malaria, as well as the ability to implement, optimise and standardise assays and troubleshoot protocols independently. You will also have experience in writing scientific reports and contributing to publications. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively with others.
